"The pain level was way worse when the patches were off and I don’t think people realize how much of a difference they can make."

Tony Finau’s first Masters appearance in April of 2018 started off just as the realization of any long-standing dream should have. Enjoying the historic venue, the excitement that comes with the first major of the year, and practice rounds with Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, and Vijay Singh. “Walking around that place, knowing I would be teeing it up for the first time, it was extremely cool.” Tony’s dream continued into Wednesday with the famed Par 3 Contest, a tradition that draws much attention prior to the actual tournament. On the 7th hole with a full crowd watching and his family in tow, Tony’s tee shot landed on the green and spun back towards the hole, rolling in for an ace.

"The pain was 10 out of 10 on the Thursday morning,
and I thought my chances of playing were pretty much gone."

Tony ran down the fairway in celebration with arms high in the air, turning around for a moment to look back at his wife and kids standing on the tee – and then it happened. Running backwards, Tony’s left ankle abruptly gave way to a gruesome dislocation, immediately taking him to the ground. In a combination of awe, shock, and collectedness, Tony proceeded to gingerly place his ankle joint back into place as if putting a shoe back on that had just fallen off.“I had so much adrenaline when I hit the hole-in-one that when my ankle rolled out I wasn’t in much pain, to be honest.” Doing his best to keep it cool and walk off the fall, he continued to play. “I played the last two holes because I was anxious to see how it felt.” Immediately after completing the last two holes, Tony’s trainer wrapped his ankle with multiple STAMINAPRO patches. But the true test would come the following morning before Tony was set to take the stage at 12:43pm for his first-round tee time.“I had so much adrenaline when I hit the hole-in-one that when my ankle rolled out I wasn’t in much pain, to be honest.” Doing his best to keep it cool and walk off the fall, he continued to play. “I played the last two holes because I was anxious to see how it felt.” Immediately after completing the last two holes, Tony’s trainer wrapped his ankle with multiple STAMINAPRO patches.
